PRODUCT NAME
Cello bags
A familiar retail name for clear presentation bags. The name alone is not enough to establish what a particular bag is made from.
MATERIALS & TERMINOLOGY
The names are often used interchangeably in packaging listings, but they do not reliably identify the material. True cellophane is a cellulose film; the CelloBag range is made from OPP, an oriented polypropylene film.
THE WORDS YOU WILL SEE
PRODUCT NAME
A familiar retail name for clear presentation bags. The name alone is not enough to establish what a particular bag is made from.
POLYPROPYLENE FILM
OPP means oriented polypropylene. BOPP means biaxially oriented polypropylene: orientation in two directions. Our published material specification is OPP.
CELLULOSE FILM
A cellulose film rather than polypropylene. Cellulose films can be coated or uncoated, so the exact grade and finished product still matter.

| Question | CelloBag OPP bags | Cellulose cellophane bags |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Oriented polypropylene (a plastic). | Cellulose film. Check the grade and any coatings. |
| Thickness | 40 micron film. | Varies by product. Read the stated thickness. |
| Closure | A self-seal flap. | Depends on how the bag is made; the material name does not specify a closure. |
| Fit | Use the listed internal width and length; the flap is additional. | Check whether measurements are usable internal dimensions and whether the flap is included. |
| Compostability | We do not sell these OPP bags as biodegradable or compostable. | Look for evidence for the finished product and its specified disposal conditions. |
| Specialist use | No archival or food-contact certification is claimed here. | Verify any archival, food-contact or other specialist claim for that product. |
A CLEARER PURCHASE
Two listings can both say “cellophane bags” while describing different materials, thicknesses or usable sizes. Compare the material and finished dimensions first, then the pack quantity and price.
For CelloBag, the essentials are 40 micron OPP, a self-seal flap, usable internal dimensions and a choice of 100 or 200 bags.
Clear appearance does not tell you whether a bag is compostable, accepted by a recycling scheme or appropriate for long-term conservation. Follow the product’s evidence and the instructions of your local collection scheme.
For valuable originals or specialist storage, check the requirements of the artwork or photographic material before choosing packaging.
Terminology references: Futamura: cellulose films and Futamura: polypropylene films. These explain material terms; they are not certifications of CelloBag products or a statement of our supplier.
